Welcome to our group

This warm and welcoming group of volunteers have been raising funds and awareness for Canine Partners locally since 2018. And it all started with one life-changing partnership.

In 2013, Susan Fulton – now the Community Group’s leader – was matched with her canine partner, Esther. Susan was asked about Esther so often, she became a Volunteer Speaker, giving talks to share our charity’s story with new supporters.

Susan later teamed up with Marjorie Johnston, a former Puppy Training Volunteer, and together they launched the community group, supported by Alison Kingston, James Babbington-Smith and his canine partner, Spud.

What’s involved and how you can help

Today the group goes from strength to strength. You can volunteer full-time, or help out flexibly when you can.

Through a packed, year-round programme of events, talks and fundraisers, the volunteers have raised more than £50,000 for Canine Partners – enough to train and support an assistance dog through its lifetime with us.

Some of their highlights include:

  • Events at iconic locations like Alnwick Gardens and Bamburgh Castle
  • Being chosen as Dunstanburgh Golf Club’s Charity of the Year
  • Raising funds with Rotary friends and boosting the total through The Big Give

What our volunteers say

‘We’re so proud to represent Canine Partners. Our aim is to raise awareness and money to help provide a life-changing assistance dog for the next person living with disabilities, all while having fun together.’ – Susan Fulton, Community Group Lead
