Who we support
We support adults with physical disabilities and assess every applicant individually.
Supporting adults with physical disabilities
We work with adults aged 18 and over who have physical disabilities that affect their independence.
If you’re wondering whether your disability is ‘enough’, many people feel the same. What matters most isn’t a diagnosis alone. We look at how your condition affects your daily life and whether a partnership with a dog could help you.
Our assistance dogs are expertly trained specifically to support physical disabilities.
You don’t have to be a wheelchair user
Some of our partners use wheelchairs, while others don’t. Many people we support have mobility challenges or fluctuating conditions that may not always be visible.
Some of our partners use walking aids, wheelchairs only outside of the house or are full time wheelchair users. If you think one of our dogs can support you with daily tasks and living independently, we can explore whether a partnership could be right for you
A wide range of conditions
We support people living with many different physical disabilities. This includes conditions people are born with, conditions that develop over time, and injuries caused by accidents.
The list below isn’t exhaustive and inclusion doesn’t guarantee eligibility. Examples include:
- Multiple sclerosis (MS)
- Cerebral palsy
- Spinal or head injuries
- Stroke
- Arthritis, including rheumatoid arthritis
- Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS)
- Friedreich’s ataxia
- Fibromyalgia
- Muscular dystrophy
- Spina bifida
- Osteogenesis imperfecta (commonly known as brittle bone disease)
Assessed case by case
There’s no checklist or black-and-white process for deciding eligibility.
Each applicant is assessed individually. We consider your needs, lifestyle and environment, as well as ensuring a dog’s health, wellbeing and training needs can be fully met.
Matching a dog and a person is both a science and an art. Our goal is always to create a partnership that is safe, rewarding and life-changing for both of you.
